College Profile


With the motivation of Sh. S.L. Kapoor, I.A.S. the then Deputy Commissioner of Patiala , Public College, Samana, was established in the year 1969. Under his Chairmanship, the college started providing excellent services in the field of higher education in this predominantly rural and backward area in the district of Patiala. This multi-faculty co-educational college fulfils the educational needs of about hundred villages around Samana in a radius of more than 35 kilometers and is built in a pollution free environment with sprawling green lawns. Presently, the college is functioning under the able guidance of Sh.Kumar Amit,I.A.S., Deputy Commissioner, Patiala as its Chairman.

Starting with a meager strength of 109 students in the faculty of Arts, this institution has over the years grown into a multi-faculty, huge and attractive establishment with the present strength of approximately 2500 students. Presently ,it is imparting education in the field of Arts, Commerce and Computer Science. Subjects of Home Science and Music (Vocal) were specially introduced in the curriculum of the college to encourage the girl students of the area. Hailing its wonderful progress and overall performance the Punjabi University, Patiala declared this college as the Model College of the university in the year 1996.

Keeping in mind the requirements of the modern education system the College started imparting various job oriented courses such as BCA, B.Sc.(Agriculture), B.Sc.(Medical/Non Medical), BBA, B.Voc.(Computer Graphics Designing), B.Voc.(Food Processing Eng.), PGDCA, M.Sc.(IT), M.A.(Punjabi,English,History),M.Com. Apart from these courses, the college introduced vocational career oriented add-on courses namely "Principles and Practices of Insurance", "Tax Procedures and Practices", "Spoken English", "Agro Services", "Environmental Education", Information Technology", "Computerised Accounting", "Computer Hardware and Networking" and "Fitness Training". In addition to these courses a Post Graduate Diploma in Dress Designing and Tailoring was also introduced. Since the college caters to the educational needs of not only the local students but also students from the neighbouring areas, a Girls hostel has been constructed with the help of UGC. Indoor Sports Stadium is also under construction with the financial help from UGC.

To inculcate the reading habits the college also has a very big Library which has more than 26,000 books, more than 50 monthly magazines and journals. The college has huge sports infrastructure which includes Eight Lane Track, Squash Court, Swimming Pool, Tennis Court, Table Tennis Tables, Boxing Ring, Basket Ball Court and Multi-Station Gym. A number of students have benefited from these facilities and the students have won laurels for the college. To spread the feelings of brotherhood and national integration the college also offers N.C.C., N.S.S. and Youth Welfare activities. has also specially been introduced keeping in view the girls of this backward area.
