NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS)

NSS stands for National Service Scheme (NSS), which is a Government Sponsored Scheme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. It was launched in the year1969. This scheme was introduced in our college in the year 1973. The major aim of the Scheme is to develop the personality and character of student youth through voluntary community service.

NSS MOTTO

The motto of NSS is ‘NOT ME BUT YOU’. This reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings.

NSS LOGO

The symbol of the NSS is based on the ‘Rath’ wheel of the Konark Sun Temple situated in Orissa. These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time and space.

NSS in our college

At present, we have six NSS units in our college, managed by six different Program officers from different departments. Each unit has 100 volunteers. Students are given a chance to fill their NSS membership forms at thebeginning of the academic session.
Various activities like blood donation camps, cleanliness derives and campaigns against social evils are being organized by the NSS department from time to time. Our volunteers very actively participate in all the activities and hence play a very important role in nation building activities. Such participation also helps in the mental development of students. They learn so many different things like empathy, sympathy and importance of group work from their experience at NSS activities. Such experiences play a crucial role in their development as responsible citizens.
Special Seven Days Camping programs are also organised, which provides unique opportunity to students to inculcate their leadership skills and team spirit.
A notable accomplishment includes the construction of a large fountain on the college campus by NSS volunteers—an enduring symbol of teamwork and dedication Public College Samana was proudly recognized as the “Best College” by the NSS Department of the University for its outstanding contribution to community service and volunteerism.
